December 2016

Official opening & Christmas Party a success!

Extract from Keighley News website:

FROZEN stars joined more than 80 children for a Christmas party to open Silsden Youth and Community Centre.

Olaf and Elsa from the hit Disney cartoon film were among guests as the former Silsden Youth Club reopened its doors on December 10.  Marshall and Everest, from pre-school TV show Paw Patrol, were also on hand.

A new management committee of residents has taken on the Elliott Street building from Bradford Council and hope to hire it out to groups of all ages. Jill Cook, director of Silsden Youth Community Interest Company, said there had been a fantastic response.

Cllr Peter Robinson, the Silsden town mayor, gave a speech and officially opened the venue by cutting a ribbon.

Attractions included a disco, bouncy castle, facepainting, refreshments, tombola, raffle, Lego bricks and exotic animals.

There was also a first aid demonstration, a chance for children to make planters, name the teddy and colouring competitions, and Santa Claus in his grotto. A host of local businesses donated prizes.

Jill said: “All these people provided their services and time free of charge, for which we are very grateful.

“Thanks to these local businesses supporting us, we managed to raise over £400, which will go towards keeping the centre open.

“All in all it was a fantastic event which we all enjoyed as did the children and parents.”

Sue and Callum Purcell were at the party to raise money for their son and older brother Finlay to go on a charity expedition to Borneo in 2018.

Good News - Plans are going well for the Christmas Party on the 10th December, some great volunteers are helping to pull it all together, along with local businesses and the general public - thank you for your support.

We featured in the Keighley News about the official opening of Silsden Youth & Community Centre and the Christmas Party.

Bad News - Unfortunately we were not successful with the Aviva community funding - just not enough votes.  But don't despair we will source other funding streams in 2017.

October 2016

We have applied for some funding for Silsden Youth & Community Centre and we need your votes.

If we are successful we will be able to provide a free creche facility (in the Children's Centre) whilst you get fit at our fitness class (in the Youth & Community Centre). We will also be able to set up a cafe so you can grab a coffee and have a chat with other adults whilst your child is looked after by a fully qualified childminder.

So please help us by clicking on the link below and voting (you can vote up to 10 times!)
